House Bill 1804
The reason I’ve been MIA for a while is because of the House Bill 1804 passed in Oklahoma on November 1, 2007. Some fellow students and I have decided to get a referendum going to reverse this bill so that is what I’ve been working on in addition to classes. We’re working on building an organization on Immigrant Reformation and what we’ll be focusing on now is this referendum.
I don’t want to go into too much of my own explanation because I’m a biased opinion so to give you an unbiased overview of what this bill is about here’s a url link to a video hosted on KOTV.com: http://kotv.com/e-clips/news/?date=11/1/2007. It gives a very good explanation on the bill.
Here’s a link of the actual bill: http://ou.facebook.com/share_redirect.php?h=188076611655c5c9d2a793761fd393bb&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.captc.org%2Fpubpol%2Fimmigration%2FHB1804_ENR.RTF&sid=9532356345
Why am I posting about this bill? It affects us all whether you live in Oklahoma or not. Whether you’re an immigrant or not you will still be affected. It’s important to stay informed and up-to-date with what is going on in our country. This is the first and most strict bill passed on illegal immigrants in the United States. This means we could see bills similar to this popping up in other states.
This effects our economy, human rights and how much we are ‘policed’ in this country. I suggest taking this and all other issues seriously. Don’t turn the other cheek. This could be detrimental to your children and your child’s children. No matter your political slant, take advantage of your rights allowed by your government. Get involved.
Just remember, pass it on.
